What is poultry farm

Poultry farm is sizeable piece of land where domesticated birds are raised. Poultry include chickens, turkey, ducks, and geese. Animal n poultry farm are reared for the purpose of meat and egg .Chickens that are raised for their chicken meat are called broilers

Chickens that are raised for eggs are called laying hens or layers. Some breeds of poultry are raised on hobby farms are raised for shows and competitions. Since poultry meat is very nutritious and supplies the required protein

The concentrated poultry farm is a system where the birds are kept in cages where they are not allowed to roam about. One difference to intensive poultry farming is free range farming where the birds are allowed to roam freely. Poultry producers routinely use nationally approved medications, such as antibiotics, in feeds or drinking water, to treat disease or to stop disease outbreaks. Lots of poultry birds are reared every year for the motive of expenditure and as a means of earning a living

For poultry farmers constructing poultry houses under tropical environmental conditions for their poultry farming business, certain requirements must be met if the house is to provide an adequate environment. The type of poultry house system used by the proposed poultry farm is a function of the prevailing climatic conditions of the area where the farm is located

The type of poultry housing system to be used is what determines the type of management to be adopted in the poultry farm business

Poultry feeding is essential thing in a poultry farm because it is responsible for the growth and energy of the birds. High-quality and well-balanced protein sources produce a maximum amount of muscle, organ, skin, and feather growth. The essential minerals produce bones and eggs, with about 3 to 4 percent of the live bird being composed of minerals and 10 percent of the egg

Category of poultry farm

1. Ducks and geese

The rearing of ducks has a normally limited rate because it is usually reared in subsistent farms, though some commercial plants do exist. Ducks can be moved easily can are reared in closed areas, convert some waste products and scattered grain (e.g., by gleaning rice fields) to nutritious and very desirable eggs and meat. Khaki Campbell and Indian Runner ducks are prolific layers, each averaging 300 eggs per year

2. Domestic goose

Goose rearing is similar to that of ducks because it also has a limited rearing rate although some countries rear them in large scale. There are two major breeds of goose which are the Toulouse, predominantly gray in color, and the Emden which is white. The birds are raised for meat and eggs as well as for their down feathers. Geese do not appear to have attracted the attention of geneticists on the same scale as the meat chicken and the turkey, and no change in the goose industry comparable to that in the others has occurred or seems to be in prospect. In some commercial plants, geese are fattened by a special process of force-feeding, resulting in a considerable enlargement of their livers, which are sold as the delicacy

3. Chickens

Chickens are birds reared for the purpose of meat and egg production for many years. Because of its high source of protein it is being reared all over the world. Mass production of chicken meat and eggs began in the early 20th century, but by the middle of that century meat production had outstripped egg production as a specialized industry. The market for chicken meat has grown dramatically since then, with worldwide exports reaching nearly 12.5 million metric tons (about 13.8 million tons) by the early 21st century

4. Turkeys

Turkeys are also raised in great numbers because of its commercial production of it is rich in protein. A hybrid white turkey dominates commercial production, while the Broad Breasted Bronze, the Broad Breasted White, the White Holland, and the Beltsville Small White are common breeds for smaller farms. In breeding flocks, one tom is required per 8 or 10 hens, though the modern hybrid turkey is too large for natural breeding and it must be inseminated artificially

Descriptions of poultry farm

Poultry farms need proper management in order for it to produce large incomes for the poultry farmer and to also reduce losses in the poultry farm so for the poultry farm to function properly it must be carefully managed. A carefully controlled environment that avoids crowding, chilling, overheating, or frightening is almost universal in poultry farm. Cannibalism, which expresses itself as toe picking, feather picking, and tail picking, is controlled by debeaking at one day of age and by other management practices. The feeding, watering, egg gathering and cleaning operations are highly mechanized. Birds are usually housed in wire cages with two or three animals per cage, depending on the species and breed, and three or four tiers of cages superposed to save space. Cages for egg-laying birds have been found to increase production, lower mortality, reduce cannibalism, lower feeding requirements, reduce diseases and parasites, improve culling, and reduce both space and labor requirements
